Construction on a new bridge over the
Suzhou Creek will begin soon, Jing鈥檃n District
officials said.
The bridge, filling a gap between the Puji and
Hengfeng road bridges, will result in greater
convenience and shorter transport distances
for local residents.
The bridge will be 853 meters long, linking
Changping and Hengtong roads. It will be open
to pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.
Community carnival
Shanghai entered the hottest period of sum-
mertime this month, with temperatures soaring
up to 39 degrees Celsius. But scorching heat
isn鈥檛 deterring local residents from participating
in community activities.
The Jing鈥檃nsi community鈥檚 summer sports
carnival drew big crowds. Children, parents
and even some senior citizens competed in
traditional games like rope skipping, hula hoop-
ing and darts throwing. The games, held in the
Jing鈥檃n Park, also attracted foreigners, tourists
and white-collar office workers.
Latest fashions
Shanghai has always been known as a town
of fashion, and now it鈥檚 even easier to parade
the latest styles.
Nearly 20 luxury labels, including LV, Dior,
Gucci, YSL, Prada and Salvatore Ferragamo,
have been granted priority ranking that lessens
the chances that new shipments of merchan-
dise will be held up for Customs inspections.
That means goods on the shelves change
more frequently.
Of the 20 firms, 85 percent have outlets in
the Jing鈥檃n District.
