On July 23, the Seminar on Century-Old Development of the Second National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the United Front was convened in Shanghai. The seminar was jointly held by United Front Work Department, the Research Office of the Party History of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and the CPC Jing’an District Committee under the guidance of the China United Front Theory Research Association. Centering on the century-old development of the Second National Congress of the CPC and the United Front, 12 experts and scholars from all over the nation deeply studied and communicated the significant meaning of the origin of the united front, and have a profound understanding of the important thoughts of General Secretary Xi Jinping on strengthening and improving the work of the united front. Chen Tong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee and Director of the United Front Work Department, attended the seminar and delivered a speech.
Chen Tong pointed out that the united front has played an important role in every historical stage over the past 100 years. Since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has regarded the united front as an important magic policy for the Party to govern and rejuvenate the country, forming important thoughts of General Secretary Xi Jinping on strengthening and improving the work of the united front. Shanghai has always borne in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s entrustment to unite and lead the city’s united front to focus on the central task of economic development and the need to serve the overall interests of our country, build consensus, and pool efforts, so as to achieve the “five-pronged perseverance”.
I hope the experts in Shanghai will strengthen the research capacity on the history and major theoretical problems of the united front and the method of united front work in the new era, especially important thoughts of General Secretary Xi Jinping on strengthening and improving the work of the united front, so as to provide intellectual support for the united front work in Shanghai.
From July 16 to July 23, 1922, the Second National Congress of the CPC was convened in Shanghai, and the Resolution on the United Front for Democracy was deliberated and adopted as the Party’s first special document on the united front. Experts at the seminar believed that the Second National Congress of the CPC has played a pioneering and important role in the history of the development of the Party’s united front. At the seminar, Zhang Xiansheng, Mo Yueyun, Cheng Danhong, Zhang Wenju, You Wei, Lin Huashan, Xiao Cunliang, Huang Tianzhu, Shi Baoqiang, Wang Zhi, Zhou Hanmin, Yan Aiyun, and other experts and scholars have conducted in-depth exchanges on topics such as why the Party’s united front began at the Second National Congress, the development and enlightenment of a century, and the role of magic policy in the new journey towards great rejuvenation, arousing their thoughts and inheriting their original aspirations.
