L.E. Hudec was born in a family of architects. He graduated from Budapest Royal College at 21, and became a member of the Budapest Royal Society of Architects at 23 with his accomplishment at sculpture and the art of language. In 1918 when he was sent under escort as a Hungarian officer from a Siberian prison of war camp to another place, he jumped out of the train and escaped to China. Finally he settled down in Shanghai and stayed there for 30 years. A very influential architect in Shanghai's architectural history in the last century, he designed dozens of architectures for Shanghai among which there were many landmark buildings such as the well-known Park Hotel, the Moore Memorial Church, the American Club, the Grand Theater, Duhau Apartment Building, Hong'en (present-day Huadong) Hospital, Wu Wentong's Residence, etc.

After the 1930,he suddenly changed completely to a modern style, becoming an avant-garde architect in pursuit of new architectural styles. In sharp contrast, his style before the 1930s was mostly classical. His perfect sculpture and delicate approaches to details showed his consummate designing skils and comprehensive artistic cultivation. Liu Jisheng's Residence was an important architecture that has a historical significance among his classical style creations.
