“Jing’an Vision” Interprets the Integration of Artificial Intelligence and Citizens’ Life

By following artificial intelligence, the Expo was intended to let the citizens feel the comfort and convenience in our lives brought by artificial intelligence. The Expo this time was themed “Science Popularization—Make Life Better” and centered on “Artificial Intelligence and Citizens’ Life”. In the exhibition area of 22 thousand square meters, more than 350 scientific enterprises, science and technology parks, scientific research institutions and universities from over 10 countries and regions including China, America, Britain, Germany, Japan, Switzerland and Sweden participated in the Expo with over 3,500 exhibits. The 16 districts in Shanghai all participated in the Science and Technology Expo this time with exhibition items representing their scientific features.

 

The reporter learned that this time, Jing’an District exhibition area was jointly established by Jing’an District Association for Science and Technology and Shanghai University National Science Park. Following the theme of “The world, the New Vision”, the area was divided into five major parts, namely 3D Light, Intelligent A.I, AR Creative Imagination, VR Dreamland, and Substance 2.0, which presented the applications of artificial intelligence in our daily lives through a “new vision”.

 

In the Science and Technology Expo this time, the hologram team of Shanghai University showed its newest achievements. The team removed the technical bottleneck in the dynamic holographic 3D display field that the optical holography was unable to realize real-time dynamic refreshing, and developed a real-time dynamic holographic 3D display screen that can refresh a thousand holograms per second. At present, it is the only holographic screen that truly realizes crosstalk-free video refreshing in the world, laying an important foundation for the development of holographic true 3D TVs/ display screens. In addition, if combined with medicine, it can also develop holographic 3D flexible film and its manufacturing equipment. For instance, the 3D holograms of cancer and tumor can directly provide doctors with information about the shapes, sizes and location depths of the lesions for diagnosis and surgical treatment, thus making contributions to the medical treatment cause.

 

AR (Augmented Reality) was undoubtedly a highlight of the Expo this time. Not only has the technology been applied to entertainment, it has also been integrated with education. In the AR Creative Imagination unit of Jing’an District exhibition area, the “AirKids Children’s Programming Treasure” product series of “ARaddin Projection AR Creative Space”, and relevant technical services brought by Shanghai ChangFeng Mdt Info Tech Ltd. based on augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, created the new AR family projection product categories called ARaddin and AirKids. The products including lots of extremely creative AR interactive projected courseware used physical items of various kinds to interact with the projected virtual world, providing the children with green, healthy and distinctive immersive STEAM education experience, and establishing an AR space allowing the children to freely give play to their creation, and thus attracted lots of children and parents to experience.

 

At the exhibition site of Substance 2.0 in Jing’an District exhibition area, citizens could see exhibits made of novel materials of various kinds including conductive ink, odoriferous stickers, liquid floor tiles and clouds made of DuPont Tyvek paper, and enjoy a visual, aural, and olfactory sensory experience. If you want to experience a breathtaking immersive fighting game, then you must go to experience the VR Dreamland in Jing’an District exhibition area. The games exhibited this time titled Throne of Elves and Rules of the Wasteland were the first VR fighting games in the electronic sports genre in China. Throne of Elves, which adopted the self-developed industrial-level optical motion capture system of CHINGMU, was the first VR motion sensing game converted from a movie IP that supported immersive multiplayer real-time battle in China jointly developed by Jingyu Culture and Mili Pictures. By perfectly combining the motion capture technology used in shooting blockbusters and the space and player positioning technologies, fully immersive high-level VR experience was realized. Rules of the Wasteland was a single-player VR fighting game developed by Jingyu Culture on the basis of HTC technology which can be called the first VR “Chicken-eating” game (general term of all battle royale shooting games) in China. A relevant official of Jingyu Culture, the developer of the game, has indicated that the release of such a product is the result of the long-term effort of Jing’an District. Shanghai University Industry Park and Jing’an District Association for Science and Technology have been unremittingly trying to bring the enterprises into contact with each other for a long time, so as to establish an integrated industrial value chain system for them. In the future, resources will be further integrated to push forward more high-quality innovative products. Dong Dong, the [L1]  intelligent robot in the Intelligent A.I exhibition area was an eloquent robotic “little fresh meat” who mastered the basic skills including singing and dancing, and thus attracted many visitors to interact with it. The robot was a combination of multiple advanced technologies including speech recognition, semantic understanding, facial recognition, as well as autonomous movement, navigation and positioning. At present, it has been widely applied to fields including family, finance, telecommunication, government affair and electricity, and is gradually becoming a true helper of humans.
