(Text by Reporter Li Ying / Photo by Reporter Xiao Mingliang) Recently, General Tong Shiping (Admiral, former Deputy Director of General Political Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Central Military Commission of the CPC, and Member of the Standing Committee of the 12th National Committee of the CPPCC) was invited by Haishang Cultural Center to hold the “100 Famous Poets, 100 Classic Poems” Calligraphy Work Exhibition. This exhibition combined calligraphy creation with classical poems, to deliver the special fascination of our traditional culture to more people.
The exhibition began on Sept. 25th and lasted for 15 days. General Tong Shiping carefully selected 100 famous poets with noticeable art achievement, influential works and great contribution to the development of Chinese poetry. For every poet, one piece of poem (or Ci, or Qu, two other forms of literature alike to poem) was selected. These poems were then written in four fronts respectively, namely regular script, official script, seal script and running (cursive) script, making up all the calligraphy works of the “100 Famous Poets, 100 Classical Poems” Exhibition. In these selected poems, those on themes about patriotism and military accounted for a relatively high proportion.
To give visitors deeper understanding towards the poets and poems, there was a brief introduction to every selected poet and piece of poem, which can let the visitors have an idea of the basic history of the development of Chinese classical poetry from the exhibition, and sincerely admire the broadness and fineness of classical poetry, so as to cultivate an interest and hobby towards the poetry and thus further strengthen the cultural self-confidence.
