On May 24, the 2019 Jing'an Film Public Welfare Distribution was officially launched at Hubei Cinema. After renovation and upgrading, the 33-year-old Hubei Cinema has reopened in magnificence to the public. Citizens now can enjoy domestic and foreign hit movies with a "five-yuan public welfare ticket". Jiang Ming, the member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jing’an District Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of Jing'an District, attended the launching ceremony and issued public welfare tickets to the representatives of 14 sub-districts and towns in Jing'an District.
In recent years, the public welfare film screening has been considered an important cultural benefit project by CPC Jing'an District Committee and Jing’an District People’s Government. With government providing subsidies, citizens can watch domestic and foreign hit movies at the expense of five yuan only.
It is understood that from 2016 to 2018, the district government had invested a total of 14.4 million yuan in public welfare film distribution subsidies. The project has covered 14 sub-districts and towns of the whole district, benefiting nearly 500,000 community residents, which has been well received by residents. It has also won the honorable title of "No.1 in the Assessment of Public Satisfaction of Practical Projects of Jing'an District People's Government" for many times, becoming the most substantial cultural brand project in the district.
The Hubei Cinema where the launching ceremony was held was built in 1986. It bears the youthful memories of several generations of Shanghainese. To provide a better viewing experience for the public, the cinema has undergone a complete renovation since last year under the instructions of Jing'an District Bureau of Culture and Tourism.
Walking into the newly renovated Hubei Cinema, the reporter saw the Art Deco style wholly adopted in the decoration of the cinema. The luxurious "Y-shaped" escalator, the terrazzo floor and wall surface, the retro toilets and the signs with filmstrip elements all exuded the graceful style of old Shanghai.
The "reopening" Hubei Cinema has six large and small screening halls equipped with the most advanced 4K laser light 3D projectors, Dolby Atmos and various sophisticated facilities, which will definitely become a new landmark for the cultural life of citizens.
It is reported that as a designated cinema of 2019 Shanghai International Film Festival, Hubei Cinema will also show some films of the Film Festival. At the same time, the cinema and the District Education Bureau have joined forces to build a platform for the quality-oriented education of children and invite state-level children's troupes to perform, thus providing high-quality extracurricular education contents for adolescents. In addition, as one of the earliest seven barrier-free cinemas in Shanghai, the "movie listening" session, specially for visually impaired patients, is regularly held in Hubei Cinema to care for special groups.
