On June 18, 2019, the opening ceremony of the "Design of the Older Generation" Exhibition commemorating the seventieth anniversary of the liberation of Shanghai — the 17th event of the Urban Book Club's "Splendid Seventy Years" series — was held at the Customs Building of Jing'an District Library. The event was sponsored by Xinmin Evening News, Shanghai Century Publishing Group and Jing'an District Bureau of Culture and Tourism, and undertaken by Shanghai Citizen Culture Association and Jing'an District Library. Jiang Ming, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jing'an District Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of Jing'an District, attended the opening ceremony.
With objects and photos on display, the exhibition demonstrates the history of Shanghai's light industry design since the founding of the PRC and tells the dedication of several generations to Shanghai's manufacturing and creativity.
The exhibition lasts until June 25. After the opening ceremony, Mr. Jiang Qinggong delivered a lecture themed on the "Daily Scenery in Shanghai". From history, architecture and objects to fonts, audios and videos, he introduced ten books on Shanghai, guiding the audience to appreciate the daily scenery in Shanghai from various perspectives such as art, design and literature.
