Delegation of Singapore Ministry of Education Visits JECAS

At the invitation of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, a five-member delegation led by William Lim[01], Director of the Planning Division of the Ministry of Education of Singapore, came to Shanghai in late January 2024 to attend the 2nd World Digital Education Conference. The delegation consisted of LEE Lin Yee, Director of the Educational Technology Division; Fang Yongqin, [02]Officer of the Planning Division; Cai Jiayi,[03] Officer of the Educational Technology Division; and Lee Wei Ying, First Secretary of the Education Section of the Embassy of Singapore in China.

On the afternoon of January 30, a delegation from the Ministry of Education of Singapore, accompanied by Li Weiping, Secretary-General of the International Education Association Shanghai, visited Shanghai Jing'an Education College Affiliated School (JECAS). Zhao Chong, Director of the General Office of Education Bureau of Jing'an District; Wu Huihua, Director of Shanghai Jing'an Education Cooperation & Exchange Center; Lu Huaihai, Vice President of JECAS; and Wang Jie, Director of the School Office expressed kind greetings and accompanied them throughout the visit.

Vice President Lu extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Singapore MOE. He briefed them on the overall situation, school-running philosophy, and all-round education of the college. Also, he shared in detail the digital education and characteristic post-teahouse teaching, piquing their interest.

JECAS has been continuously pursuing high-quality development through post-teahouse teaching, deeply integrated teaching, and innovative school-based teaching and research in the new era. It was also invited by the Singapore government to apply heterogeneous teaching in the classroom with local education peers, receiving wide recognition and high praise from Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao.

Mr. Lu said that he hoped to work hand in hand with education practitioners in Singapore to make substantial breakthroughs in digital school-based teaching and explore the research paradigm of digital application in education, to realize teachers' transformation from the consumer and imparter to the creator of knowledge. Subsequently, the two sides had in-depth exchanges on education and teaching issues, hoping to further enhance cooperation in the future.

After the discussion, the delegation, accompanied by Mr. Lu, visited the school's teaching buildings, library, interdisciplinary laboratories, art buildings, and indoor and outdoor sports venues. Modern dormitories, extending corridors, and leisurely meeting rooms ... every facility has fully served its purposes to expand students' activity space and ensure the lighting of classrooms. The whole campus is fully acting on the post-teahouse teaching. Its "people-oriented, student-centered" educational concept aligns with JECAS's school-running philosophy of achieving "balanced development of students' body and mind".

The delegation of Singapore MOE was deeply impressed after two hours of visit. In their opinion, their visit to Jing'an helped them gain a deeper understanding of Shanghai's basic education, and they hoped the two sides would strengthen exchanges and cooperation in education and culture in the coming days to embrace a better future of education.
