Located at 668 Changle Road, the Western-style private garden was originally the residence of Wu Yunzhai, general manager of the Jincheng Bank-the biggest of the four banks in northern China. In 1936 when Japan adopted the "Satu Diplomacy," the minister of finance Kodama Kenji visited China to appease the Nationalist government. Wu Yunzhai's negotiation with Kodama Kenji over Sino-Japanese economic cooperation was highly appreciated by the Japanese. In December 1941 after the Japanese army moved into the concession and took over the control over the largest Chinese newspaper Xinwenbao, Shimoto Hiroshi was appointed as the chairman of the board, and Wu Yunzhai, the general manager. So this man of the time became a traitor overnight, to the eternal regret of history. Now the house is a silent record all that happened in the past.
