Recently, the Top Five Discipline Competitiveness of Shanghai District Hospitals in 2020 was unveiled and ophthalmology of Shanghai Shibei Hospital ranked first.
It has been the first in China to rank the scientific research competitiveness of Shanghai District hospitals and the only analysis list for the scientific research strength of district hospitals in China up to now.
With the development and application of image and artificial intelligence in ophthalmology as the breakthrough, the ophthalmology research of Shanghai Shibei Hospital undertook multiple 5G medical health application projects, advanced appropriate technology promotion projects and artificial intelligence development and application projects of the National Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Health Committee, Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality and Health Committee, Shanghai.
Shibei Hospital took the lead in screening diabetic retinopathy and fundus chronic disease using infraocular photography artificial intelligence screening technology and promoted its application to the units of Northern Medical Community in Jing’an District and four hospitals in Bachu County, Xinjiang Province. It was the first to apply the assisted diagnostic technology of infraocular photography artificial intelligence to the clinical front-line of primary medical institutions both at home and abroad, and bring the qualitative leap of community diabetic retinopathy from fundus photography AI screening to today’s OCT (optical coherence tomography) plus fundus photography dual-modal AI screening, enabling more community residents who have been suffering from fundus diseases to realize early detection, early intervention, and early treatment. In the past 3 years, the project has successively provided more than 9,300 community residents with screening for diabetic retinopathy and fundus chronic disease. It has not only reduced the prevalence rate of eye complications, blinding rate and medical burden of diabetic patients, but also greatly reduced the labor cost required for the discovery of diabetic retinopathy of community residents, and improved the classified diagnosis efficiency of medical treatment alliance. With the prevention of chronic disease moving forward and the center gravity moving down, it has brought new medical experience to the community residents, making them enjoy the benefits of high technology at home.
Chen Jili, director of ophthalmology in Shibei Hospital, introduced that the project of artificial intelligence screening for diabetic retinopathy in Northern Hospital innovatively proposed the establishment of a comprehensive mode of medical prevention and treatment services, with the working process of artificial intelligence screening for diabetic eye diseases—discovery—transfer call—follow-up—health management. Shibei Hospital took the leading role in the country in terms of ophthalmic imaging as well as artificial intelligence development and application. The project of artificial intelligent screening for diabetic retinopathy carried out by the Northern Medical Community of Jing’an District was selected by the National Health Committee as the “Excellent Case of Grassroots Service Capability Support” and won 2019 Advanced and Appropriate Technology Promotion Project of Health Committee, Shanghai (one of the two ophthalmic projects in Shanghai Health System). The 5G Robot for Myopia Forecasting of Children and Adolescents was awarded the 5G Medical Health Application Project of the National Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the second batch of 5G Medical Health Application Projects of Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, and was included in the five-year medical artificial intelligence social experiment project organized by the National Health Committee in four provinces and one city.
It is reported that the Ophthalmology of Shibei Hospital has been awarded the Shanghai Key Medical Specialty (the only district hospital in Shanghai) for two consecutive rounds and the “Characteristic Artificial Intelligence Base for Adolescent Myopia Prevention and Control in Jing’an District, Shanghai” awarded by China National Committee for the Well-being of the Youth. It is the “Light Center” designated by the National Eye Disease Clinical Medical Research Center, the film reading center for Jing’an District, Shanghai, designated by the ophthalmology big data joint laboratory of National Science and Technology Information Center, the Dry Eye Demonstration Center around East China and Shanghai basic public health service, the designated hospital for the establishment and management of children’s refractive development files.
