On December 17, the Artwork Exhibition of Children and Adolescents of Mental Rehabilitation jointly held by Shanghai Mental Health Center, Mental Health Center of Jing’an District and Jiangning Road Sub-district of Jing’an District kicks off at the community integrated senior service center of Jiangning Road Sub-district. This exhibition will be open until January 16, 2022.

In addition to the rehabilitation works widely collected from 16 districts of Shanghai, the exhibition particularly adds the artworks of the convalescents of mental disorder in sunshine gardens of sub-districts of Jing’an District, with a total of 78 artworks.

There are three themed areas on the exhibition site, namely, art therapy—to express and understand, rehabilitation and return—let the value be noticed again, and care for the mental health of children and adolescents—we need you. These artworks display the inner world of children and adolescents of mental rehabilitation, and tell their inner stories and mental journeys in the process of mental rehabilitation.

One of the most eye-catching artworks in this exhibition is Feast, the giant artwork put on the big screen of the exhibition hall. It is created by a convalescent of mental disorder from sunshine garden, West Nanjing Road Sub-district. “I painted many smiling faces in the painting. Everyone was very happy, including myself.”

The student volunteers from Shanghai Peiming Middle School and Shanghai University act as on-site guides to explain the stories behind the artworks. Visitors can also listen to the exhibition through Qingting FM and Ximalaya FM by scanning the QR code on the label of the artworks.

Chen Yuming, director of Mental Health Center of Jing’an District, said that this activity aims to provide patients with a rehabilitation stage to receive better rehabilitation resources, and expected that all sectors of society could pay attention to the mental health of children and adolescents and form a social environment of respect, understanding and tolerance.
