On November 1, the unveiling ceremony of the Trade Union of Coffee Industry in Jing’an District, Shanghai, and the first session of the member congress were held at Shangjie UYAO55, Jiangning Road Sub-district. The congress reviewed and approved the Constitution of the Trade Union of Coffee Industry in Jing’an District, Shanghai, and elected members, chair, and vice-chair of the first committee of the trade union. Lin Xiaojue, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Jing’an District People’s Congress and Chair of Jing’an Federation of Trade Unions, attended the unveiling ceremony.
At the ceremony, participating leaders jointly unveiled the Trade Union of Coffee Industry in Jing’an District, Shanghai. The trade union established on that day is Shanghai’s first district-level trade union of coffee industry. Its members include but are not limited to coffee raw material suppliers, unroasted coffee bean traders, roasted coffee bean traders, coffee-making equipment suppliers, coffee-making device suppliers, coffee chains, and other relevant economic organizations.
The 2023 China Urban Coffee Development Report reveals that Shanghai has 8,630 coffee shops, making it the city with the largest number of coffee shops globally. As one of the central districts with the most coffee shops in Shanghai, Jing’an District has gathered many coffee enterprises that leverage the huge potential of the “coffee economy” and contribute actively to the coffee industry’s development. The Trade Union of Coffee Industry in Jing’an District has been established to practically care for employment groups under the new economy and show greater concern and support for coffee industry professionals in Jing’an District. The trade union aims to unite and mobilize their efforts in making greater contributions to the district’s coffee industry.
It is reported that the Trade Union of Coffee Industry in Jing’an District, Shanghai will provide care and support for its members and organize activities such as skill exchanges, skill training, and skill competitions for coffee industry professionals. The trade union intends to enhance communication, cooperation, and knowledge sharing among its members. It seeks to provide various high-quality services and guarantees for employees in the coffee industry and create a warm and supportive environment for them.
At the unveiling ceremony, Wang Zhendong, a special representative of Jing’an District People’s Congress and Board Chair of Shanghai Feiyue Investment Management Co., Ltd., was invited as an industry development mentor by the Jiangning Road Sub-district Federation of Trade Unions. Wang Zhendong has long been engaged in coffee training and is a member of the labor craftsman service team in Jing’an District. He has received honors such as Influential Figure in the Coffee Industry, Contribution Award for Barista Professional Development, Excellent Referee in the China Barista Skills Competition, and Chief Barista in Shanghai. He is proficient in coffee product R&D and entrepreneurship guidance. Relevant personnel from the Jing’an Federation of Trade Unions awarded members of the trade union such as Shanghai Labica Coffee Co., Ltd., Shanghai Islay E-commerce Co., Ltd., Xiang Pang Coffee, and Kicking Beans.
During the subsequent “Coffee+” on-site exhibition, Xiang Ming, President of Shanghai Junke Vocational Skills Training School, introduced the concept of “Coffee + Training” to the participants. Baristas at the event demonstrated coffee-making skills such as hand-grinding and latte art. The “Smallest Wish” project introduced in the “Coffee + Philanthropy” booth was to help individuals with autism by providing coffee-related resources. The purpose of the “Coffee + Finance” booth was to support the coffee industry’s development through favorable financial projects.
In the future, the Trade Union of Coffee Industry in Jing’an District, Shanghai will develop initiatives such as “Coffee + Science Popularization” and “Coffee + Employment”. It will organize “Coffee+” activities such as skill training and coffee knowledge sharing to enhance its leadership and cohesion.
