Over one year of renovation, the once dilapidated factory area has been transformed into a vibrant green space. Recently, Xiu 709 Media Park (Phase II), located at the intersection of Wanrong Road and Yonghe Road, was officially unveiled, which become a fresh and lush green low-carbon park in the Daning Road Sub-district of Jing’an District suitable for citywalk.
Walking into the Xiu 709 Media Park (Phase II), you can see that six buildings are naturally absorbed into the garden landscape, with office buildings surrounded by gardens. Green scenery is visible through the windows of any building. In the garden, various types of seasonal plants form a multi-layered landscape, creating a picturesque view.
It is understood that Xiu 709 Media Park (Phase II) was formerly known as Shanghai Relay Co., Ltd. The factory buildings that have been preserved up to now comprise two four-story workshops and four one- or two-story supporting facilities, covering a 7,000-square-meter area of the factory buildings. In 2022, Shanghai Electric Group Property Co., Ltd. started the renovation of this area.
The renovation of the park has meticulously revived the original architectural structure while preserving the historical style of the plot. Notably, the original large areas of camphor trees and metasequoia forest have been well preserved, creating a lush forest world.
This renovation has enriched the layers of architectural space through the conversion of design and materials and endowed six individual buildings with different features, forming an urban building cluster. The park has been meticulously built based on the ecological green concept, greatly raising the “green content” of the area.
Like undulating waves, the single-story commercial buildings are distributed in sequence along Yonghe Road, creating a vibrant rhythm. The factory buildings besides them retain the original story height and concrete beams of industrial buildings inside, with an overall shape like an “opened gift box”. Nestled within lush greenery, several beautiful architectural structures stand one after another, and the origami-shaped irregular roofs protrude far from the eaves and rise to four sides, harmoniously integrating the interior with the landscape.
As a pilot smart zero-carbon park of Shanghai Electric Group Property Company Limited, the park follows the low-carbon concept in the overall design and construction process. The company has integrated a “green core” into the park, creating a green and low-carbon landscape. Specifically, the company builds an open small garden nestled in the central part of the park and a small but beautiful ecological rainwater garden. Rainwater is purified by plants and sandy soil as it is buffered and channeled through the plank road, ultimately infiltrating into the soil. This process facilitates the conservation of groundwater.
Two photovoltaic parking sheds in the park will also be put into operation soon and will provide lighting for the area and the parking sheds. Supporting facilities such as charging piles and energy storage cabinets will offer power to electric vehicles and bicycles, achieving the integration of photovoltaic storage and charging. Furthermore, a large number of transom windows in the buildings have been retained. Additionally, the integration and optimization of ventilation and lighting have effectively decreased the overall energy consumption.
Leveraging the agglomeration advantages of Xiu 709 Media Park and industries in the Daning Road Sub-district, Xiu 709 Media Park (Phase II) will provide space carriers for more emerging industries in the future.
