Since its inauguration, Shenyuli Lane at Shanghai Suzhou Creek MixC World has actively refreshed its art display repertoire, enhancing the city’s cultural offerings. This dynamic space caters to the art appreciation needs of residents, contributing significantly to meeting the public’s cultural demands.
Hidden within the century-old Shikumen architecture of Shenyuli Lane, there lies a low-key Michelin restaurant—LU STYLE, a new-style Shandong cuisine art restaurant. Crafted by designers from the Aman Resort design team, the restaurant deeply integrates art and life to create an “urban reception room” and the Uart SPACE, showcasing a model of Haipai living aesthetics.
The Uart SPACE
is located in Building 2 of Shenyuli Lane,
established by LU STYLE in 2022.
“Uart SPACE is your art space!” explains Zhang Lu, the person in charge of the Uart SPACE and the aesthetics manager of LU STYLE. As a new endeavor by LU STYLE to explore and pursue “living aesthetics”, the Uart SPACE is dedicated to fashioning a delicately structured and functionally complex display space. Within the newly revitalized historic building, works with unique characteristics and potential for development are introduced to art enthusiasts both at home and abroad through activities such as superimposed art exhibitions, collection appreciation, creation seminars, and diverse cross-disciplinary events. Uart SPACE is presently open to the public free of charge to support the advancement of urban culture.
Recently, the “Break Through” Art Exhibition,
curated by the artist Lao Jiahui and hosted by the Uart SPACE,
was inaugurated.
Eleven young artists including Deng Lingkang, Lao Dalun (Lao Jiahui), Li Wenjie, Pan Geyang, and Zou Hongyuan brought over thirty pieces of work to Shenyuli Lane. In the springtime, they embarked on a journey of “breaking through” the ordinary and transcending conventionality, not only involving breakthroughs on the levels of generation, region, and art history but also representing challenging and surpassing internal elements such as self-identity, materials, colors, and images.
Within this breakthrough, the artists created a world beyond reality. This otherworldly realm, although seemingly silent and still, displays a unique ecology separated by an undercurrent barrier. In this seemingly motionless world, everything exhibits a transcendent vitality at a halted pace, as if the act of breaking through has surged from a state of solidification. The interplay of motion and stillness turns this moment into an eternal solid.
During the special round-table forum at the exhibition opening, the curator, participating artists, and guests gathered at the Uart SPACE to discuss self-breakthrough and awakening within the context of art during the “breakthrough”. In the realm of art, numerous acts of breaking through occur, which are reflected in multiple aspects such as personal habits, art history, creative media, image selection, and conceptual advancement.
The “Breakthrough” brings not only a transformation in superficial forms but also a deep spiritual nirvana and an awakening of life philosophy. The power that erupts in silence endows the artwork with an unprecedented vitality, instantly revitalizing originally “frozen” artistic forms as if imbuing “objects” themselves with the energy for autonomous motion and iterative renewal.
The exhibition is free of charge, with no appointment needed.
