The beautiful and intricate musical notation, exquisite and magnificent Western symphonic instruments, and immersive repeated rehearsals contribute to the melodious rhythm coming from the Shanghai Opera House, which is located at 10 Lane 100, Changshu Road, Jing'an District.

Bethany Lawrence, Deputy Principal Oboe, Daniel Remme, a horn player, and Andriy Grebelyuk, Principal Trombone, are three foreign musicians in the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra. They have embarked on a new chapter of their lives in the Jing'an District.

Bethany and Daniel, both from the United States, are drawn by Shanghai's vibrant city spirit and strong symphonic atmosphere.

"Shanghai is a very cool and dynamic city," said Bethany, adding, "When I had the opportunity to join the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, I was thrilled."

One minute on the stage needs 10 years of practice off the stage. Musicians must make extensive preparations before each performance.

"After getting the music scores in advance, we prepared ourselves first. If needed, we would rehearse within our own section first," said Andriy from Ukraine.

Reflecting on his unique experience as a musician in Shanghai,

Daniel is surprised and moved by

Shanghai's commitment to

valuing, respecting, and promoting the symphony.

"(In Shanghai), they hold special concerts for horn, which is something I've never experienced before in my life."

In addition to the orchestra's performance,

the three foreign performers enjoyed

everyday life in Jing'an.

Bethany loves cafes and snacks all over Jing'an. Andriy's family of three are cycling fans, each owning a bicycle.

In Jing'an, a charming urban area full of music and cultural atmosphere, talented Bethany, Daniel, and Andriy lit up the stage with their melodious performances, infusing Jing'an with infinite charm and vitality.
