According to Shanghai Railway Station on October 9, it witnessed a travel rush of over 4.9 million passengers in the 10 days (from September 29, 2024 to October 8, 2024) for the National Day holiday. On October 1, it recorded 672,800 railway passenger trips, a historic high for single-day passenger volume in history.

During this year's weeklong National Day holiday, there was a noticeable increase in railway passenger traffic driven by a surge in passenger flows of family visitors, tourists, and students. During the National Day holiday passenger surge, trains sent over 200,000 from Shanghai to Beijing-Tianjin, Shandong, Fujian, and Hebei trips, with a seat occupancy rate of over 90% at the departure station. Traditional lines such as the Hangzhou-Huangshan High-speed Railway, Shanghai-Nanjing Railway, and Shanghai-Hangzhou Railway continued to run in high positions. According to the data, on October 1, the Shanghai Railway Station recorded 672,800 railway passenger trips, a historic high for single-day passenger volume in history.

To alleviate the shortage of transportation capacity on railway lines heading towards popular directions during the National Day holiday, Shanghai Railway Station added 396 passenger trains to destinations such as Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, and Henan while maintaining train schedules during peak hours.

During the National Day holiday, national flags were hung in station waiting rooms and shop corridors. Slogans celebrating the National Day were displayed on electronic display screens. "Check-in points" and "pop-up" interactive activities with passengers contributed to the vibrant and festive atmosphere. The "silver hair channel", "silver hair window", and "railway-local traffic connection" services addressed the concerns of elderly passengers and those with mobility challenges. Shanghai Railway Station set its waiting rooms 24-hour open to passengers, offering a comfortable environment for those traveling at night.

To efficiently evacuate arriving passengers, the station enhanced the collaboration with local traffic management departments and took measures such as extending metro and bus operating hours to ensure that the passengers arriving at night could move around the city smoothly.
