On May 16, the "Love in Jing'an, Beauty in Daning" Jing'an District Theme Event for the 35th National Day for Helping the Disabled and the 26th Shanghai Week for Helping the Disabled kicked off at the Party-mass Service Center in Daning Road Sub-district. The event was hosted by the Working Committee for the Disabled of Jing'an District People's Government and co-organized by Jing'an District's federation for the disabled and Daning Road Sub-district. Tang Yan, Member of the Leading Party Members Group and Vice President of the Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation, and Fu Jun, Member of the Standing Committee of the Jing'an District Committee of the Communist Party of China and Executive Deputy Mayor of Jing'an District, attended the event. Over 300 participants included representatives from member units of the Working Committee for the Disabled of Jing'an District People's Government—such as the district's court, procuratorate, and justice bureau and heads of the Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University, Shanghai Pingtan Troupe, Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company, and Maritime Photographic Culture Promotion Association, as well as self-improvement role models, representatives of advanced individuals in helping the disabled, people with disabilities and workers for them, and caring individuals.
This event was guided by Party building and integrated diverse resources, including technology, the rule of law, and cultures, to vividly interpret the concepts of equality, integration, and sharing.
The city's and district's leaders presented multiple honorary certificates, which highlight the strength of self-improvement and help for the disabled. Among the certificate recipients was He Qionghua honored as a Model of Self-improvement in Shanghai; Shanghai Sanxiang Liangyi Youth Career Development Promotion Center as an Advanced Collective in Helping the Disabled; young pianist Yao Haiwei as an Advanced Individual in Helping the Disabled in Shanghai; Jing'an District Association for the Deaf as a Home for the Disabled in Shanghai; and Yang Guidi, a worker for the disabled from the Caojiadu Sub-district as an Advanced Worker in the system of Shanghai Disabled Persons' Federation.
The district's court, procuratorate, justice bureau, and federation for the disabled jointly launched the "Jing'an: A Place of Love and Legal Support" judicial protection mechanism for the rights and interests of the disabled and established a comprehensive legal protection network through interdepartmental collaboration. The Run'ai Wusheng team, among the first AI sign language translation teams in China, unveiled its digital robot Xiaoya, who acted as a sign language host. They adopted high technologies to break down communication barriers for the hearing-impaired. Meanwhile, four organizations—the Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University, Shanghai Pingtan Troupe, Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company, and Maritime Photographic Culture Promotion Association—joined Jing'an District's cultural support matrix for the disabled, further enriching cultural resources and assisting the disabled in embracing the beauty of culture.
Additionally, the YANA Band under Jing'an District's Federation for the Disabled performed Running in collaboration with the Shanghai Light Music Troupe; young pianist Yao Haiwei played alongside blind tuner Zhang Zhenyu; a deaf dance troupe staged an original dance titled The People on the Mountainside; hospital representatives from the "Jing'an: A Place of Love and Medical Care" project and individuals with disabilities sang the original advocacy song for help with the disabled, Love in Jing'an; and the Peking Opera troupe under Jing'an District's Federation for the Disabled showcased a Peking Opera medley. The diverse activities displayed the brilliance of the integration between people with disabilities and those without.
Outside the event venue, organizations such as the Shanghai Sanxiang Liangyi Youth Career Development Promotion Center and Ensan Ethnic Culture Communication Center, along with Jing'an District's association for the physically disabled and the Sunshine Home under Daning Road Sub-district's Federation for the Disabled, set up a Public Welfare Market. This market featured cultural and creative handicrafts by people with disabilities, demonstrating their craftsmanship and passion. The "Chasing Dreams, Lighting the Future" photography art exhibition of the disabled in Jing'an District depicted the resilient spirit and beautiful aspirations for life within this community through the language of the lens.
