"New Year Abs Showoff", "Seated Shoulder Press", "Calorie Burn", "Back Strength Showcase", "Plank Challenge"...Nearly 200 fitness enthusiasts raced through four shared gyms in Jing'an and competed in strength, speed, and endurance, bringing the energy of sports to the district in winter.

The "Share Vitality, Celebrate the New Year in Jing'an" Shared Citizen Gym Orienteering Challenge of Jing'an District kicked off on December 27. The event covered the southern, central, and northern areas of Jing'an, with Baokuang Community Citizen Fitness Center serving as the main venue and Daning Road Sub-district Shared Citizen Gym, Xikang Road Shared Citizen Gym, and North Hengfeng Road Shared Citizen Fitness Station as three sub-venues.

The Orienteering Challenge featured four categories: men's youth, men's middle-aged, women's youth, and women's middle-aged groups, attracting diverse fitness enthusiasts. Each stage of the challenge tested both strength and endurance. The top three winners in each category were determined by the total task completion time across three sub-venues and the finish line challenge results.

Mr. Liu, who works in the West Nanjing Road Business District, is a regular at shared gyms in Jing'an. "It costs just RMB 8 for a one-hour workout after work—very affordable. The gyms are equipped with all kinds of equipment. Notably, I don't need any membership cards. Pay per session, zero commitment."

Jing'an pioneered China's first Shared Citizen Stadium, which has won broad acclaim from fitness enthusiasts since its launch. In 2025, 24 Shared Citizen Stadiums supporting activities such as fitness, basketball, soccer, badminton, table tennis, and pickleball operated in Jing'an District and received nearly 500,000 visits from citizens for fitness purposes annually. The unmanned venues feature full coverage of monitoring equipment. Citizens can scan the QR code with the Alipay mini program for quick access and activity tracking.

"Citizens in Jing'an are passionate about fitness. With new venues added every year, we aim to bring more shared fitness and sports venues closer to people's neighborhoods and make workouts more accessible for everyone," said Hu Yanbo, General Manager of Shanghai Jiuhui Sports Management Co., Ltd. and the venue operator.

The Jing'an District Sports Development Center noted that in recent years, the district's Shared Citizen Stadiums have explored and evolved to enhance their service quality and offerings and meet citizens' diverse sports and fitness needs. After years of development, Jing'an's shared sports is entering its second stage, transforming Shared Citizen Stadiums from basic fitness spaces into multifunctional, dynamic, and wide-coverage sports service complexes. This helps create a vibrant atmosphere that advocates "Love Jing'an, Sports for All", promote health and happiness among fitness enthusiasts through various sports activities, and enrich the concept of "15-minute community life circle".

The Orienteering Challenge was organized by Jing'an District Sports Federation, co-organized by Jing'an District Sports Development Center, and hosted by Shanghai Jiuhui Sports Management Co., Ltd. Moreover, Shanghai Pepsi-Cola Beverage Co., Ltd. supplied drinking water and finish packs.
