As spring unfolds in full splendor and all life thrives, spring green-themed events were recently held at the Horticulture Center of Zhabei Park. Guided by the Forest Chief Office of Jing'an District and organized by the Forest Chief Office of Gonghexin Road Sub-district, these events aim to advance ecological civilization, enrich community life, and foster a culture of loving, protecting, and growing greenery. They drew residents, volunteers, street merchants, and employee representatives from local enterprises, who gathered to celebrate nature, share green values, and build a better community together.

The first event, a DIY greenery fridge magnet workshop, was co-hosted by the Sub-district Forest Chief Office and the Shanxue Integrated Grid. A horticulture instructor began by introducing principles of color matching and composition, offering insights into how visual balance and tonal variation can elevate the aesthetic appeal of a piece. Next, the instructor walked everyone through the steps of creating succulent fridge magnets, showcasing a variety of inspiring designs—from round, adorable succulents and exquisite miniature potted plants to elegant trailing greenery. The demonstration left the residents eager to get started.  

Through a dance of kneading, pinching, pressing, and rolling, everyone transformed round clay balls into lush leaves, miniature planters, and delicate branches. With sculpting tools, they carefully etched intricate vein textures onto each leaf. Next, leaves were staggered along the stems, the plants were firmly bonded to their pots, and bright hues were painted on. Finally, touches of gravel and colorful charms added the perfect finishing details. Step by step, charming and refreshingly cute botanical fridge magnets came to life!

Hiding spring in the palm of a hand and spreading sustainability through small objects, participants took home more than just a craft—they embraced a lifestyle of green living. By turning ideas into action, they experienced the distinctive delight of building an eco-friendly future.

Merging natural beauty with sustainable values, the Creative Flower Bloom Box DIY session invited participants to learn from a seasoned floral artist. The instructor provided step-by-step demonstrations, covering everything from flower selection and trimming techniques to the art of color pairing and structural arrangement.

A vibrant array of blooms—carnations, Diana roses, blue lace flowers, sea holly, tulips, and rocket larkspur—was artfully arranged, filling the air with intoxicating fragrance. Participants listened intently before diving into hands-on practice, trimming stems, shaping forms, and composing layouts under the florist's expert guidance. Through this immersive experience, they not only embraced the beauty of nature but also used floral art to express their aspiration for a green lifestyle, further cultivating a deep-seated commitment to protecting our natural world and safeguarding our ecological home."

This spring's series of green initiatives translated forest conservation concepts into tangible actions at our fingertips, while using the elegance of floral scents to cultivate a deep love for ecology. Thus, the civilized ethos of "loving, protecting, and growing greenery" has subtly permeated the community consciousness. Looking ahead, the Sub-district Forest Chief Office will continue to leverage the "Forest Chief System" as a core mechanism to strengthen accountability in green protection.
