Official: Horizon of Khufu II to Launch on April 25! Sneak Peek at New Highlights
Horizon of Khufu II: Mystery of the Builders, created by French immersive content studio Excurio and co-produced by The Metaverse Project, Shanghai Media Group (SMG), and Oriental Pearl Group Co., Ltd.'s SMG Pictures, will officially open to the public on April 25 at The Metaverse Project's Immersive Exploration Centers in four cities: Shanghai, Chengdu, Shenzhen, and Wuhan.
As the sequel to Horizon of Khufu—a phenomenal immersive exploration experience enjoyed by 3 million visitors worldwide—Horizon of Khufu II: Mystery of the Builders continues its core immersive pyramid exploration experience. Through large‑scale free-roaming technology, visitors are transported to ancient Egypt 4,500 years ago, embarking on a collective journey in a space blending virtual and real worlds. Meanwhile, it features three core highlights that turn the mystery of the pyramids into an understandable, explorable experience.
Highlight 1
How were the pyramids built? Mainstream archaeological theories are brought to life for an immersive, first-hand understanding.
The construction of the pyramids has long been a key focus of academic research and one of the public's most intriguing questions.
Based on major archaeological discoveries in recent years, Horizon of Khufu II: Mystery of the Builders systematically presents current mainstream construction theories through 3D modeling and immersive storytelling, covering key aspects such as stone transportation, the Nile's shipping systems, labor organization, and construction procedures.
Visitors will once again step inside the pyramids and their construction sites, gradually understanding how these theories hold up, along with the archaeological evidence and factual basis behind them. Unlike traditional documentaries or exhibitions, these academic theories are transformed into explorable spatial scenes, allowing visitors not only to see conclusions but also to understand how they were formed.
Highlight 2
Spaces unentered for thousands of years are opened to visitors for the first time.
Using scanning technology, scientists have discovered several unknown structural spaces inside the Pyramid of Khufu, including an area known as the "Big Void". These spaces remain physically inaccessible to this day.
In this experience, these spaces are digitally reconstructed. Visitors will be able to enter them from a first-person perspective to observe and explore the inner structures of the pyramids. This also marks the first time these related archaeological discoveries have been presented in a form accessible to the general public.
Highlight 3
The earliest known engineering records in human history are recreated as a firsthand experience.
Horizon of Khufu II: Mystery of the Builders also recreates a key archaeological document—Diary of Merer. Regarded as one of the earliest known written records of the pyramid construction process, this document details stone transportation and engineering organization.
In the experience, visitors will sail along the Nile with stone-transporting fleets to Wadi al-Jarf, an ancient Red Sea port, and develop insight into how ancient Egypt organized labor and resources to complete this monumental project.
This section enables visitors to grasp the real operational logic behind pyramid construction based on firsthand historical records.
According to The Metaverse Project, Horizon of Khufu II: Mystery of the Builders is now on national pre-sales. Tickets are available via The Metaverse Project's official mini-program and major mainstream ticketing platforms.
As a co-producer, SMG Pictures will fully leverage SMG's content communication and industrial synergy resources, collaborating with platforms including OrBiz International Business and DFGOU to develop exclusive cultural tourism packages and explore an innovative operation model of "content-driven traffic + ticketing channel conversion" for the project.
