From April 13 to May 10, French luxury brand CELINE is once again partnering with Shanghai's Zhang Yuan, opening a limited-time space—Été CELINE Summer Limited Roaming—within the century-old Shikumen architecture cluster to showcase the elegance and vibrancy of French lifestyle aesthetics. From last year's South France Garden to this year's French seaside holiday, CELINE elevates its pop-up to an annual narrative, highlighting Zhang Yuan's unique value in the debut economy as a historic district.
Two global debuts: the summer collection and bespoke services premiered at Zhang Yuan
This limited-time space is inspired by seaside holidays, with a rich French vacation vibe permeating every corner.
The building facade features a huge seaside visual, sand dunes laid across the plaza, and two exquisitely crafted wooden cabins—one as an ice cream bar and the other as a cycling and surfing-themed experience shop. A special ping-pong game area in the courtyard serves as a fun bridge between Chinese and French cultures.
The first-floor main area is decorated with summer touches, featuring design elements from classic seaside cottages and Parisian interior aesthetics everywhere.
On display is the globally debuting Été CELINE Summer collection, including women's ready-to-wear, accessories, and select men's items, showcasing a unique style that's both refined and relaxed.
On the other side of the space, a personalized customization area offers exclusive on-site bespoke services for handbags, small leather goods, and Denim pieces—launched for the first time globally, and available only at Zhang Yuan.
Customers can mix and match creative elements such as China's twelve zodiac motifs, 26 English letters, and archival CELINE icons like elephants and cats.
Upstairs, four independent spaces—jewelry and haute couture fragrance exhibition, photo booth, and private salon—make the immersive journey blending French flair and fashion aesthetics even more enchanting.
The pairing of antique furniture and custom pieces further enhances the texture and quality of the overall limited-time space design.
An irreplicable debut venue: French resonance amid Shikumen
CELINE's second collaboration with Zhang Yuan is no coincidence. Zhang Yuan is Shanghai's largest remaining mid-to-late Shikumen architecture cluster, combining Oriental elegance and East-West openness that harmonizes uniquely with CELINE's French romantic and avant-garde essence—this deep integration of historical context and brand spirit is what makes Zhang Yuan irreplaceable compared to other commercial spaces.
According to reports, since the renewal of Zhang Yuan's West Zone, more than 50 high-tier brands have been introduced, with a brand occupancy rate exceeding 90%. Over 280 launch, debut, and cross-sector events have been held in conjunction with the time-limited pedestrian street on North Maoming Road, averaging 50,000 visitors per day, with peak crowds nearing 130,000.
Meanwhile, Zhang Yuan's dedicated bonded warehouse and the citywide departure tax refund hub have become two powerful engines propelling Zhang Yuan's debut economy. The bonded warehouse enables nationwide innovations like in-warehouse product viewing without deposit and "buy and pick up instantly", helping brands create a unique "showcase in front, shop behind" experience; the unique "Shikumen + departure tax refund" scenario allows overseas visitors to shop easily and get refunds efficiently. On June 30 this year, the East Zone's first open area at Zhang Yuan will unveil a nearly 100-meter-long corridor, with several preserved heritage buildings also making their debut in a brand-new look.
