June 1 marked the fifth anniversary of the opening of the National Flag Education Exhibition Hall at the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China. To celebrate the occasion, the immersive VR film Five Stars over the East, co-produced by an Jing'an-based enterprise, premiered at the venue.
As part of this national flag-themed event series, the film is a joint production of Shanghai Xinhua Distribution Group Co., Ltd., Shanghai REVE Visual Technology Co., Ltd. (REVE)—a representative enterprise of the "Audio-Visual Jingjie" Shanghai Ultra-High-Definition Audiovisual Industrial Cluster, the Memorial Site of the Fourth National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and the National Flag Education Exhibition Hall. Leveraging VR technology, the film recreates the defining moments of the national flag's birth. It guides viewers back in time, allowing them to witness firsthand the great journey of the flag from initial conception to its solemn raising, and to deeply appreciate the faith and glory it embodies.
As introduced, the film Five Stars over the East follows the central narrative of "The Story of the National Flag," unfolding across seven chapters: "Stars in the Attic," "Echoes of History," "Sketches of the Starry Sky," "Glimpse of First Stars," "Symphony of Five Stars," "Monument Through the Ages," and "Stars over the East."
Through the fantastical lens of two youngsters, Xiaoxing and Qiqi, viewers step into Zeng Liansong's attic studio in 1949 and witness the entire designing process of the Five-Starred Red Flag, from the initial spark of inspiration to the finalization of the draft.
From the red banners that bore witness to the Long March, to its solemn rise over Tiananmen Square, and to its enduring symbol in the depths of space and ocean, the film strings together the tapestry of the nation's collective memory along the path of this single flag. Through VR technology, audiences are transported into pivotal historical moments, engaging with the revolutionaries of the past and witnessing the flag's most stirring moments across time.
The successful launch of this project is a testament to an effective collaboration model in which each contributing party leveraged its unique strengths.

A pioneering example is the VR musical film Yao A Yao · 1995, which premiered at Zhang Garden. Co-produced by Shanghai Xinhua Distribution Group Co., Ltd., Shanghai Film Academy of Shanghai University, and REVE, this groundbreaking project attracted immediate, widespread attention. Later, it earned the prestigious first 2026 VR "Dragon Mark" (Permit: YSXZ [2026] No. 001) and was recognized as a recommended VR film by the 16th Beijing International Film Festival.
Bringing this visionary VR project to the century-old Zhang Garden showcased the indispensable, end-to-end support of the "Audio-Visual Jingjie" ecosystem.
According to the company, Jing'an District has been key, helping secure prime locations like Zhang Garden to overcome the common hurdles of site selection and adaptation for immersive projects, while also proactively connecting them with investors and expanding promotional channels to ensure commercial implementation.
The evolution from Yao A Yao · 1995 to its latest new release showcases REVE's booming innovation, a growth trajectory that also showcases the potency of Jing'an's precision-nurtured, ultra-HD audio-visual ecosystem. Deep collaborations with numerous Jing'an-based companies across the supply chain have been crucial. It is this robust ecosystem that has fueled REVE's rapid ascent from a startup to an industry leader, now firmly established as a top-tier domestic VR content creator.
REVE's innovation never ceases. It discloses that a second season of the Yao A Yao series is in active development. Meanwhile, the company is deepening its focus on Shanghai's local revolutionary stories, with plans to produce a VR series that masterfully integrates educational value with artistic power.
