On August 1, during the 35th World Breastfeeding Week, a New Parents Boot Camp focusing on the "first 1,000 days of life" kicked off at Nova Beauty Tech in Jing'an District. The event aimed to provide families in the district with timely, scientific parenting guidance through professional science outreach and immersive practice.

Fifteen families braved the scorching sun to pack the venue. Among them, 14 were expectant parents, while one couple brought their one-month-old baby to seek advice, becoming the most eye-catching experienced parents at the event.

"A baby's skin is so delicate; how should we care for it?"

"Is it always better to breastfeed more frequently?"

Xu Haijun, a senior parenting expert from the Jing'an District Maternal and Child Health Care Center, took the stage to deliver a lecture. Closely following this year's World Breastfeeding Week theme, "Support Breastfeeding, Safeguard the Start of Life," Xu Haijun broke down common breastfeeding myths and infant skincare essentials. Starting from the most common misconceptions, his down-to-earth questions had many parents nodding along and capturing notes with their cameras.

The hands-on session was the liveliest part. With simulation dolls placed on every table, expectant fathers were invited on stage to practice burping, changing diapers, and swaddling under Xu's step-by-step guidance. One sturdy father held the doll so tensely that Xu corrected him with a smile, "Support the back of the neck with your arm; don't grip it. Be as gentle as if you're holding tofu."

As a practical outreach project of the Shanghai Jing'an Association for Science and Technology, the event was held at Meichuang Jingjie, a beauty and health innovation eco-community. By leveraging the venue's ample public space and industrial resources, the initiative effectively expands the science outreach to communities. It represents a pragmatic step by the government, medical institutions, and industrial parks to jointly foster a birth-friendly society. Moving forward, the multi-stakeholder partnership will continue to deepen, offering people-centered, warm science outreach that strengthens the first line of protection for every new life. The goal is to empower every new family to embrace parenthood with ease and assurance.
